Certification
The International Gemological Institute independently grades and certifies every diamond we sell, before it ever reaches you.
The International Gemological Institute (IGI) is one of the world's largest and most respected independent gemological laboratories, with grading facilities in Antwerp, New York, Mumbai, Hong Kong, and beyond.
IGI issues grading reports that objectively document the quality characteristics of a diamond (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight) without any commercial interest in the outcome. They are the global standard for lab-grown diamond certification.
When a diamond carries an IGI report, you know exactly what you're getting. No guessing, no marketing language. Just facts documented by a third party.
Every IGI report documents the four Cs, the international standard for describing diamond quality.
The report also confirms the diamond's origin as lab-grown, its shape, measurements, and fluorescence grade.
Every Lihara diamond goes through IGI's grading process before we set it. Here's what happens.
Our diamonds are grown using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) or High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) processes in controlled laboratory conditions. The process takes weeks and replicates the exact conditions under which natural diamonds form, with carbon atoms arranging into the same crystal lattice structure.
The rough stone is submitted to IGI completely blind. IGI gemologists have no knowledge of intended pricing or any commercial relationship with the grading outcome. This independence is what makes the certification meaningful.
Multiple trained gemologists assess the stone independently. Color and clarity grades are assigned by consensus. Cut grades are determined by precise measurement of the stone's proportions and finish.
IGI laser-inscribes a unique report number on the diamond's girdle, invisible to the naked eye but readable under magnification. This permanently links your stone to its official report and lets you verify the grading independently at any time.
Your IGI certificate ships with your piece in a protective sleeve. The report is also available digitally. Simply visit IGI's website and enter your stone's report number to verify its grading record online.
Without certification, a seller can describe any diamond any way they choose. The IGI report removes all ambiguity. The grades are assigned by a neutral third party using standardized criteria.
An IGI certificate is universally recognized by jewelers, insurers, and resellers worldwide. If you ever need to insure, resize, or pass on your piece, the certificate documents exactly what you have.
IGI is the leading certifier of lab-grown diamonds globally. Their grading standards for lab-grown stones are the same as for mined diamonds. There is no reduced standard or simplified process.
